Damage to Mental Health of Women
- Pakistani women experience psychosocial stresses throughout their entire life. Studies carried out by N.Nisar et al (2004) have shown that there are particularly high and consistent rates for depressive and anxiety disorders in Pakistani women. According to the study, factors causing mental illnesses in Pakistan are: illiteracy, social discrimination, violation of human rights and denial of justice etc.
- In another study carried out by BMJ (2004), the overall mean prevalence of depressive and anxiety disorders in women 45.5% while the overall mean for men is about 21.7%. Depressive and anxiety disorders are more than twice more prevalent in women and than men.
